Even the cows are getting a little cranky around here with all the snow! In other news, I've taken a little blogging break over the last two weeks. My parents were in town, it snowed, hmmm..., I guess those are my only two excuses! I have been gathering some good content and thinking about some changes in my format and blogging. An update to come soon! Hope you have a great weekend!!
There is something powerful about being called by your name. When you hear your name called out, you instinctively respond. It feels good when someone remembers your name. It makes us feel important. I find it amazing that the God of Universe knows my name. Among the billions of people on this planet - God knows me. He knows my name, He knows my thoughts, He knows my struggles, He knows my fears, He knows my joys, He knows my sin, and He loves me! What an amazing thought. He loves me even though I am unlovable and unworthy.
Maybe today you need to be reminded of this precious truth. If you know Jesus Christ as your Savior - you are an object of God's love and affection. He loves you, He knows you, He sees what you are going through and He is with you! Enjoy this classic song from Casting Crowns and soak in the truth of words in this powerful song!
Isaiah 43:1 But now thus says the LORD, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
Last Friday I was hanging out with my kids in the mall while my wife did some shopping. We had fun exploring, riding on some rides and wondering why some of the mannequins didn't have heads. While we were walking by one particular store, my five year old noticed a mannequin wearing jeans with quite a few holes and tears in them. She immediately exclaimed, "Why would anyone buy those! They already have holes in them!" It made me chuckle. Now I understand that to some, holes help them express a statement of fashion that they feel conveys who they are or the image they want to project. My five year old however, could not grasp that.
Later I thought about that moment and it served as reminder to me that we all view life through our own lenses and perspectives. We might experience the same thing, observe the same event, listen to the same speech, look at the same pair of jeans, but come away with a vastly different view of what we saw or experienced. Why is that? Perspective. I'm currently reading a book written by Mark Batterson titled "The Grave Robber" in which he makes the following analysis about perspective. "We don't experience the world as it is. We experience the world as we are." Our life experiences, beliefs and biases are the lenses through which we view the events of life. This gives us a limited view of reality. We all could benefit from being willing to see the world through eyes of others.
I want to challenge you to endeavor to see the world through more than just your perspective. How? Read widely, have conversations, talk your kids, it just might help you broaden your perspective on life!
I heard this song from Keith & Kristyn Getty for the first time last week. I found the words and melody to be a powerful encouragement. The Christian life is a life that cannot be lived out in our own strength. Fauilre will always be the result! Thankfully we don't have to. God has placed His Spirit in us! There is a great promise in Romans 8:26"Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words."
Remember that if you know Christ, you are not alone! Take a few minutes to read over these words as you listen to them sung. I hope they will encourage and inspire you the way they did me!
Holy Spirit, living Breath of God, Breathe new life into my willing soul. Bring the presence of the risen Lord To renew my heart and make me whole. Cause Your Word to come alive in me; Give me faith for what I cannot see; Give me passion for Your purity. Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me.
Holy Spirit, come abide within; May Your joy be seen in all I do-- Love enough to cover ev'ry sin In each thought and deed and attitude, Kindness to the greatest and the least, Gentleness that sows the path of peace. Turn my striving into works of grace. Breath of God, show Christ in all I do.
Holy Spirit, from creation's birth, Giving life to all that God has made, Show Your power once again on earth; Cause Your church to hunger for Your ways. Let the fragrance of our prayers arise. Lead us on the road of sacrifice That in unity the face of Christ Will be clear for all the world to see.
