Psalm 104:1 “Bless the LORD, O my soul! O LORD my God, you are very great! You are clothed with splendor and majesty.”
God is greater and more glorious than we could ever imagine. He is holy, all powerful, and all knowing. In 1 Timothy 6 Paul speaks of God as the one who “dwells in unapproachable light”. Yet God in His love, grace and mercy has chosen to make Himself accessible to us. Jesus came into this world as God in human flesh. He lived a sinless life, died a sacrificial death and rose from the dead after three days. In this, He made a way for us to experience forgiveness and eternal life with Himself. It is through faith alone in Jesus that we have the right to experience a living relationship with the Creator who is truly indescribable.
One of the realities of living in this relationship with God is an awareness of our sinfulness and shame. The holiness of God shines a light onto the darkness of our hearts. We as humans are far more sinful and wicked than we really want to admit. Even those who are forgiven and living in a relationship with God still deal with a heart that is bent towards sin and rebellion. As God continues His work of salvation He deals with our hearts and part of that is revealing the sin that still exists. This can be a painful process and sometimes a scary process. We tend to cover the things in our life that we think would cause those that love us to not love us anymore. Yet with God we can’t cover anything. He knows everything about us and still He chooses to love us!
The line that caught my the other day was this one, “You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same.” - Chris Tomlin. Thursday is for thinking and today I challenge you to think for a few moments about the incredible reality that the God who is indescribable and knows everything about us loves us anyway. There is nothing that God does’t already know about you and He loves you. I hope that like me you will be overwhelmed by the radical love of God and being consumed with that love, it will lead you to love God and love others!
