The other day, as I was busily going about getting some errands done, I was interrupted by these words from a cashier "How's your day going so far?". Those words were spoken with an unexpected kindness and sincerity. It was amazing how those few words, spoken genuinely, made such a difference in my day. I gave a polite response and thanked her. As I drove home I thought about how my day was positively impacted through this brief moment of kindness. It also made me think about the opportunities that I have missed to simply show kindness to those I interact with on a daily basis by simply taking the time to ask a small question with honesty and sincerity. I want to allow it to challenge me and inspire me to purposefully seek to show and share God's kindness with the people I meet and connect with on a daily basis. Maybe you could join me? Be on the lookout for an opportunity to be kind today, you have no idea how big of an impact it might make in someone's life!
Colossians 3:12 Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.
A few weeks ago my wife and I were having lunch at Steak N Shake with the kids. About halfway through the meal an older gentleman approached our table and told us that he enjoyed watching us interact as a family. He shared that he raised his family of three in the Atlanta, GA area and that one day when they were having lunch a kindhearted gentleman came over to them, complimented his family and paid for their meal. He then said that he wanted to do the same for us. He left us cash to pay for our meal, said "God bless" and walked away. It was a humbling and encouraging moment for my wife and me. It came at a time where we both needed our spirits lifted. His willingness to do for someone what someone had done for him was a not only a great encouragement, but a powerful inspiration as well.
Everyday we have the opportunity to be a blessing to others if we will just be willing to have our eyes and heart open to the people around us. My wife and I will never forget the kindness this stranger showed us and we look forward to the opportunity to pass it on. If you are follower of Christ clothing yourself with kindness is not just a suggestion, rather it is something that should be part of our wardrobe everyday! What can you do today to pass on kindness?
Colossians 3:12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience,
