Last Friday I shared a link on my Facebook page from Jon Acuff. I received a good amount of feedback on it and thought it would be worth posting again. It is a short read, but a great reminder for parents. If you have young children, take a couple of minutes and check out this great post. Don't let culture be the loudest voice in your child's life!
One of the fun parts of being a parent is listening to your children talk to themselves when they don't know you are listening. My son Evan, who is 2, is at a perfect age for this, but my 5 year old also provides some great listening moments as well. The other day while she was alone in the kitchen and I was in the next room I overheard Layna loudly and randomly exclaim "I am no ordinary tomato!". Obviously she had been watching Veggie Tales lately! What made it so funny was the truth in it. Layna is truly "no ordinary tomato"! The best word to describe her might be unique. I'm so thankful to be her daddy and I look forward to watching this unordinary girl grow up!
Every once in a while you hear a song that immediately connects deeply with your heart. This happened to me a few weeks ago while attending a Christian Music Broadcasters conference. Lindsay McCaul was not an artist I was very familiar with, but as she began to share the the story behind this song and her relationship with her dad I was intrigued. When she started singing I was moved to tears.
As a dad, this song resonated deeply with me. It caused me to think about the impact and influence that I have on my children and it inspired me to seek to be a better dad for my children. I will warn you, you made need to have a tissue on hand for this one, but if you are a parent you need to listen to this song! May it inspire you to live in such a way that you are able to leave a godly legacy for your children!
